On August 27, 2010, DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc announced a product recall of two models of hip replacement device. These devices were implanted in patients between 2003 and 2009. The recall was necessary due to the failure of the acetabular cups which failed at a 12-13 percent rate. Due to the defects of the cups, patients had to undergo another replacement surgery.
